There are many reasons why people LOVE Norfolk and Norfolk homes. First of all, the vibrant atmosphere: Norfolk has the best downtown in the area filled with nightlife and restaurants. Norfolk Waterside nearby Town Point Park is an active spot right on the Elizabeth River and full of events year-round. Norfolk homes surrounding the downtown area are exquisite with many vintage neighborhoods with Craftsman-style homes. Ghent is one of the most popular areas in the entire Hampton Roads area! It’s perfect blend of streets that can be walked among Norfolk homes that are lined with trees and that old style feel people love. And did I mention that Norfolk is home to the largest Navy Base in the world? Norfolk NOB!
I love Ghent and West Ghent. The houses are amazing with tall ceilings and historic floor plans. The neighborhoods are surrounded by streets lined with restaurants and shops that make you feel like you’re living in a small community, though you’re in the second largest city in Hampton Roads. Ghent real estate is in high demand, more than just about all of the rest of Norfolk homes. People love being close to the action but still tucked away in a dream house. Ghent has my favorite Norfolk restaurants, including Mr. Shawarma and Volcano Sushi. The Hague is a spot in Ghent that’s fun, with a lake in the center of Norfolk surrounded by amazing Norfolk homes and the Chrysler Museum, a prominent art museum. Also, Downtown Norfolk is the home to the NEON District, which is the official arts district of Norfolk!
Larchmont and Colonial Place are neighborhoods surrounding the Ghent area in Norfolk and these are rich in history! Larchmont was built back in early 20th Century when a street car was required for transportation between it and the rest of the downtown Norfolk area. Colonial Place is another area similar to Ghent (with many streets named after states) and the houses resemble many in the higher-priced Ghent area. This is a fantastic option for people looking for the old charm of Norfolk homes but without having to spend the price of Ghent. And it’s close to Ghent!
